Papenfuss is a Salem, NH molecular biologist by trade, but is an artist in
his heart. It's sort of hard to describe myself beyond that.
As one of my favorite sayings goes, I am unique, just like everyone else.
My passion for nature is
clearly shown in the photographs on this page. Growing up in
suburban Massachusetts and going from a young Cub Scout to a Boy
Scout to an Eagle Scout, taught me to appreciate the world around
me...what Mother Nature presents to us every day. My photos range
from the majestic, imposing White Mountains of New Hampshire, down to a
busy little bumble bee; from the massive pyramids of Ancient Egypt, down
to a mother goose watching over her young. I guess my take on the
world is that there is beauty in all things large and small...all you have
to do is look.
In case anyone is
curious, I have never taken any photography classes, or real art classes
of any sort for that matter. I have always enjoyed taking pictures,
but in the past several years, it has become much more of an outlet for
me. My "day job", while interesting to me as a scientist, is fairly
rigid. With my camera, I can recreate the world around me as my
mind's eye sees it. I can lose myself in the view through a lens.
I shoot with a Canon Digital Rebel with battery grip
and 3 gigs of high speed memory cards, Sigma
lenses (50mm EX 1:1 macro and 18-200mm) and a Sigma EF-500 DG flash. |
